The Summer Ivy Cardi is a fun, boho, lacy summer staple to have in your closet!
I designed the Summer Ivy Cardi after not being able to find a pattern that matched what I wanted. When I saw this stitch pattern in one of my books I instantly knew what I wanted to do with it. Thus, the Summer Ivy Cardi was born. The name of the cardi is after the stitch design. It reminded me of the way ivy climbs up a garden trellis so it only seemed fitting to name it Summer Ivy Cardi.
This cardi is so fun to wear! You can easily dress up any outfit with this top. It would look fantastic with a dress or even a pair of shorts. Add some length to the top and you can wear it over a swimsuit as a beach cover-up. This piece is seriously so versatile!
The pattern is considered Intermediate just because of the combination of stitches. An ambitious beginner crocheter could do this but it would probably take some time because of the stitches. Don’t worry there aren’t any difficult stitches to make! They’re all basic stitches but some beginners may have a slower time with the combination of them.
There are 3 sizes included in the pattern. S/M which fits bust sizes 32-38 inches, L/XL which fits bust sizes 40-46 inches and Plus which fits bust sizes 48-58. The cardi is meant to be a little oversized. For reference, the model in the picture is wearing the S/M and bust measures 39 inches. So quite a bit of room to make it fit how you like.
Finished size before blocking: S/M- 25 in. long by 24 in. wide. L/XL- 25 in. long by 28 in wide. Plus- 25 in. long by 34 in. wide. There are instructions in the pattern on how to make it longer if you desire to.
The yarn used to make the cardi is Knit Picks CotLin DK in Sagebrush, 123 yds per 50 g. skein. S/M uses 5 skeins, L/XL uses 6 skeins, and Plus uses 7 skeins. Other great yarn options, Paintbox Cotton DK, We Are Knitters The Cotton and Patons Grace. (Disclaimer: If you purchase through the links provided, I will make a commission at no extra cost to you.)
Of course you can use acrylic yarn but definitely make sure to check your gauge. A few of my testers used acrylic and it turned out great!
